We have a Sony Magnescale LF-200 (Ser. #901470) in apparent need of repair.
The symptom is very dim digits that are flickering non-sensical numbers and do not respond to eitherthe "X" oe "Y" axis movements.
We have experienced some nearby thunderstorms however we are not aware of any nearby strikes by lightning. Our PC computer has experienced no known anomolies from such.
The unit was last used about 2 weeks ago and there was some flickering in the last digit at that time. Also
the digits seemed, at that time, to not be as bright but were readable, none the less.
By way of introduction, the unit has been, since new (estimated purchased new in about 1975 or 1076) mounted on a Bridgeport BR2J Universal Knee Milling Machine. The machine is in a shop and is used by only on machinist - myself. As a follow-up to the aove - this machine has never been used for production work - rather is a machine in our tool-room.
The subject unit was sent to a Chicago facility for repair about 15-20 years ago. As I recall it went to a Sony Factory repair facility but those records are no longer available in our files.
I have several questions so ask:
1) Is such a unit worthy of repair or would replacment be more feasable?
2) Do you have facilities and knowledge sufficient to repair this aging unit?
3) Is it possible, from my above description,to "guess" what the problem might be?
4) Do you have a standard charge or do you work on a basis of doing an analysis in your shop
and giving answers to my questions after examination?
5) If we send it to you forrepair, what is your estimated "turn-around" guesstimate?
5) If you recommend repair, to where do I send it?
As a point of interest - - I was in your area (Corona) last week-end at which time I had no idea of needing
such service.
